Why are we fighting this?

On March 13th, 2011, AT&T announced that they will be instituting bandwidth caps on their DSL and U-Verse subscribers, effective May 2nd. This has caused significant uproar online, with many people considering switching to other providers. A company has the right to do whatever it wants with its business, but unfortunately, people don’t necessarily have the ability to switch to a different provider. A lot of this is due to the incumbent carriers (telcos and cable providers) granting little to no access to their lines, but there are also people who can only get DSL or cable, but not both. Or neither.

This site started with me writing the following letter in an attempt to get better answers from AT&T management as to why they have decided to put this into place. I will continue to post as the anti-cap movement ramps up to fight this latest assault on the Internet. Without proper choice, our only weapon is to hurt AT&T’s profitability and discourage the few other broadband Internet providers in the US from following in AT&T’s footsteps.

Let me know what I can do to help the cause. We have 2 autistic kids that download netflix 24/7 (literally) and Comcast/Xfinity just took our unlimited internet away and we are getting slammed w/ overages!
